Terms

In plain language

Doveborn is a quiet place where two people exchange weekly letters. It is run as a registered sole trader (a Finnish toiminimi) based in Finland. By using it you agree to the following.

Your account

You must be 18 or older. Each Doveborn account belongs to one person; you and your partner each have your own. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in safe.

Your letters

Your letters are yours. We don't claim ownership over what you write. We store letters so we can show them back to you and your partner; we don't read them, sell them, or train AI on them.

Conduct

Doveborn is between you and your partner. Don't use it to harass, impersonate, or harm anyone. If we receive a credible report that an account is being used to abuse a partner, we may suspend it.

Par Avion subscription

Par Avion is an optional paid subscription. Payments are handled by Polar, our merchant (seller) of record, who processes the transaction and collects any applicable taxes such as VAT; Polar's checkout terms also apply to the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from your account page, and access continues through the end of the period you've already paid for.

Refunds and the cooling-off period

If you're a consumer in the EU/EEA (and in many other places), you have a statutory 14-day right to withdraw from a distance purchase. Because Par Avion gives you access immediately, when you subscribe you ask us to start right away and accept that the withdrawal right ends once the subscription has been fully provided; if you withdraw partway, any refund is reduced in proportion to what you've already used.

Beyond that, as a goodwill matter we'll refund unused subscription time on request within a reasonable window — just email us, or request it through Polar. Nothing here limits the mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.

Service availability

We try hard to keep Doveborn running. We don't guarantee specific uptime or that a letter will deliver at an exact instant. If a delivery is delayed by an outage, it will arrive when we recover.

Doveborn is not currently offered to people in the United Kingdom, and we don't direct the service there.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Doveborn is provided "as is" and our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the prior twelve months. Some jurisdictions don't allow this; in those, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law — for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to the service

We may change, pause, or discontinue Doveborn. If we discontinue, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data. If we make a material change to these terms, we'll let you know in the app or by email.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. If you're a consumer, you also keep the mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. EU consumers can also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform.
